The Application Process

Applications for the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year Awards have now closed.

Making an application

  1. To apply for either yourself or a peer for the Oncology Nurse of the Year awards, please first familiarise yourself with the selection criteria to determine suitability.

  2. Think about which of the three award categories best fit the applicant: Oncology Nurse: Clinical Care, Oncology Nurse in Research or Oncology Education and Community. You will be asked to select one of these categories when making an application.

  3. Ensure you secure consent from the applicant before nominating them for the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year awards.

  4. Address the selection criteria, with a focus on how the applicant fulfils the criteria in relation to the award category, in the online application.

  5. Don’t forget to attach two letters of endorsement from people who hold a professional relationship with the applicant (eg. Current or past managers or coworkers. Those nominating someone else are not eligible to provide letters of endorsement).

  6. Submit applications on or before 11 April 2022. You will receive a confirmation email.

The judging process

The shortlisting process will take place between 12 - 22 April. The judging panel will consist of judges who are health industry leaders and professionals in the fields of oncology and nursing.

The panel of judges will carefully consider applications and collaborate to finalise a shortlist of candidates for the three award categories, followed by the winners of the three award categories, and the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year (selected from the three category winners).

Shortlisted candidates

Shortlisted candidates for the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year will be notified in April 2022. They will be invited to attend the 2022 Oncology Nurse of Year Awards Ceremony and formal dinner in June, in Brisbane. Travel expenses will be covered for shortlisted candidates who live regionally.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to make a presentation to the judges, covering how they meet the selection criteria questions in May 2022.

Shortlisted candidates may be asked to prepare a brief speech for the awards ceremony or take part in video footage.

The awards ceremony

The 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year awards ceremony and dinner will take place 23 June 2022, at Victoria Park in Brisbane. Health industry professionals, judges and Cancer Council Queensland and Icon Cancer Centre representatives will all attend the ceremony to congratulate the candidates. The winners of the three award categories will be announced, followed by the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year.
