Selection Criteria

Applications for the 2022 Oncology Nurse of the Year awards have now closed.

Who can apply for Oncology Nurse of the Year?

Oncology Nurse of the Year applicants must be qualified individuals currently employed as a registered nurse in Queensland. They must have at least five years' experience in providing care to cancer patients, and currently be working in an oncology related role or providing care to oncology patients.

Suitable applicants are those that go above and beyond the everyday demands of their role and exhibit exceptional qualities which enhance their profession as a nurse, and skills in cancer care.

Award Categories

The three categories for Oncology Nurse of the Year are:

Applicants must be nominated for ONE of these categories. The Oncology Nurse of the Year will be chosen from the three category winners.

Selection criteria

Oncology Nurse: Clinical Care

Applicants for the Oncology Nurse: Clinical Care award, must display the following:

  • Has significantly contributed to delivering a positive outcome in service provision or patient care.

  • Has shown/provided an outstanding understanding of advocacy on behalf of patients/clients/residents or the profession.

  • Has collaborated with others (health professionals and/or community organisations) to positively impact health outcomes for patients.

Oncology Nurse: Research

Applicants for the Oncology Nurse: Research award, must display the following:

  • Has made an exceptional contribution to research resulting in improvements to the delivery of patient care and/or information.

  • Has actively engaged patients to ensure increased opportunities and involvement in research.

  • Has established research and/or evidence-based practice to improve clinical care and patient outcomes, and identifies opportunities for future research studies.

Oncology Nurse: Education and Community

Applicants for the Oncology Nurse: Education and Community award, must display the following:

  • Has made an exceptional contribution to improving care and outcomes for patients through innovative patient centred education and/or community initiatives.

  • Has improved patient experience and health outcomes.

  • Has demonstrated commitment to patient care and how this has positively impacted health outcomes for patients.
